313 million dollars: will this hilarious saga from the 2010s be entitled to a 3rd film?

The comedy “Bad Moms 2” airs tonight on TFX. The opportunity to take stock of the sequel projects to these two films on the underbelly of motherhood worn by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn.

In August 2016, audiences discovered the secret lives of imperfect but very funny mothers Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn in Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s comedy, Bad Moms.

This guilt-free film follows Amy (Kunis), a married woman and mother whose career begins to take off. Except that in reality, the young woman is putting so much pressure on herself that she is on the verge of breaking down. At the end of her rope, she finds as allies two other mothers also exhausted by the stress of the rules imposed by Gwendoline (Christina Applegate), the all-powerful president of the parents. These three new best friends embark on a crazy trip in search of fun and relaxation, far from their conventional responsibilities as mothers. With a budget of $20 million, the film grossed $183 million internationally.

A year and a half later, the three friends are back with Bad Moms 2, this time taking place at Christmas. As the holidays approach, the 3 imperfect and irreverent mothers worry about finding… their own mothers. This second part grossed 130 million worldwide for a budget of $28 million.

Results which quickly made the production company STX want to launch a franchise. During ComicCon 2019, the studio announced that directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore were going to develop spin-offs to their comedy and even a series.

The first film entitled Bad Moms’ Moms will focus on the mothers of the heroines of the previous installments. The latter already appear in the second opus and are played by Cheryl Hines, Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon. The second spin-off film is expected to focus on fathers.

Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell And Kathryn Hahn should therefore make appearances but they will not be the main actresses.

But with the Covid-19 pandemic these projects were put on hold and since then, there has been no further news… Jon Lucas and Scott Moore having no known projects to date, it is possible that they are actively in the process of work on these films. It is still unknown whether the actors from the previous opuses will return.

On the other hand, the Bad Moms series seems to be moving forward a little… In August 2023 we learned that the series would soon enter development as part of a new distribution agreement between STXfilms and Lionsgate. It is still unknown to this day if the directors and/or actresses of the films will be involved in the project or if the story will follow other mothers.

Waiting for, Mila Kunis should soon appear in the cast of Goodrich alongside Michael Keaton and Andy MacDowell and Will Gluck’s comedy, Jackpot.

In 2025, Kristen Bell will once again lend her voice to Anna in Frozen 3 and 4, while Kathryn Hahn will very soon be in the cast of the Disney + series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, spin-off of the WandaVision series centered on the character of Agatha Harkness.
