Bayer Leverkusen snatches FC Bayern’s unbeaten record

It is a novelty for the Bundesliga: With the 2-1 win against Mainz 05, Bayer Leverkusen remains unbeaten in their 33rd competitive game in a row and is now the sole record holder. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team benefits from a goalkeeper error in the championship race against FC Bayern.
Bundesliga table leaders Bayer Leverkusen are still heading towards the first championship in the club’s history. The Werkself had problems for a long time against FSV Mainz 05, who were in serious danger of relegation, but ultimately deservedly won 2-1 (1-1).
Bayer at least maintains its comfortable lead over champions Bayern Munich, currently at eleven points. The Mainz team remains penultimate in the table and is in the middle of a relegation battle.
