35 braid ideas for short hair: photo album

Having short hair doesn't mean sporting the same hairstyle every day. Here are 35 braid ideas to vary styles every day!

According to a misconception, it is difficult to style short hair. Some women are even hesitant to cut their hair for fear of always ending up with the same hairstyle without being able to change it. But this is only a myth! If you like short haircuts, there are several ways to vary hairstyles and styles. Braids, which you might think are reserved for long hair, are short hair's best friends. The braids allow to give character to the hairstyle and to vary styles. Without too much effort, the braids always have their effect! Braids also highlight short hair texture, color, ombre hair or strands. Braids help to give a more worked effect to short hair, they are practical for sport or on hot or windy days and can even be a good alternative when there is no time to wash your hair. You will understand, the braids are all good! But how to adopt them on short hair?

From the African braid to the waterfall braid through the crown braid, nothing is forbidden to you. Simply texturize hair with styling mousse or dry shampoo so that the braids hold better. You can also use some accessories to enhance the hairstyle or extensions that will go unnoticed and allow you even more possibilities. All you have to do is choose the braid [s] that suit your desire for the day.

African braid

The African braid is a generally 3 strand braid that starts from the top of the head and is glued to the skull. It can be more or less wide, placed in the middle or on one side and is suitable for short hair.

Take a section of hair where you want to braid it, then divide it into three equal sections. We bring the left wick below the middle one and then the right one again below the middle wick. Once again, we bring the left strand below the middle one and then add a little hair to the middle strand. We cross the strands then add a little hair every second time to the middle strand to obtain a pretty braid that is then tied with a small elastic.

For a more rock look, we trace a fairly low parting on the side before making the braid. Pull back the loose hair to the other side and you're done.

The waterfall braid

The waterfall braid or "waterfall braid"is a braid that makes the head circumference but still much more relaxed than the crown braid. This pretty original braid is ideal for giving a little bohemian chic touch to short hair.

It is made like a glued braid but letting fall a wick. We start by taking three strands of hair of equal thickness below each other, along the forehead. We pass the top one between the other two and then bring the bottom one back to the middle. We repeat the same thing with the top section, adding a little hair. Instead of taking the one at the bottom, let it "fall" resulting in the "cascade" effect, then take another section of hair of the same thickness and bring it back to the middle. We continue in the same way with the rest of the hair.

Boxer braids

Boxer braids or "boxer braids"are glued mats that thewe braid in reverse to give them even more volume. It is possible to achieve them on short hair with or without extension.

First of all, we separate the hair with a parting in the middle. Take a wick on one side and separate it into three sections. Then pass the top wick below the middle wick then the bottom wick again below the middle one. As with an African braid, add a lock of hair from the outside for a glued effect and continue to braid at least to the nape of the neck.

The wheat ear braid

The wheat ear braid or "fish braid"is not a three-strand braid like most braids but a two-ply mat.

Divide the part of the hair that you want to braid into two sections of similar thickness. We take a small section outside the left section that we pass over the section of hair to integrate it into the right section. We take a small wick on the right and we do the same thing, bringing it this time to the left section. The operation is repeated several times to obtain a beautiful ear of wheat mat.

You can also make a glued ear of wheat braid by following the same technique but adding, as for the African braid, a little hair each time you braid.

The crown braid

The crown braid or "crown braid"is a glued braid that takes all the hair and makes completely around the head.

We separate the hair with a parting in the middle. We then take a large lock of hair on the top of the head that we separate into three strands. As for the African mat or glued, we add locks of hair of equal thickness as the braiding. Once at the bottom of the neck, we braid in the same way going up to the top of the head. We do not hesitate to put your head down to make braiding easier! Once all the hair is braided, tie the braid with a small elastic and secure it with a few bobby pins, hiding the ends of the hair. And here is a chic and romantic hairstyle par excellence!
