Investigations to clarify what happened to the accident have begun. According to initial findings, he was descending alone on the west ridge of the 3,967 meter high mountain when he fell for reasons that are not yet clear, the statement says. Those on duty included mountain specialists from the Bern Cantonal Police, helicopters from Air-Glaciers and Rega, and a specialist from Alpine Rescue Switzerland.
