If certain novels are deemed unadaptable for the screen, others manage to do well, even in serial format. This is particularly the case for 4 series available on Prime Video: Big Little Lies, Daisy Jones and the Six, The Power as well as Paper Girls.
When we love literary characters so much, it can be difficult to find the adaptation that will do them justice in our eyes, whether in film or series version. But since the SVOD platforms have decided to capitalize fully on the successes in bookstores, we have to make up our minds.
And fortunately, some adaptations manage to come out on top, faithfully respecting the original work, while brilliantly bringing our favorite paper protagonists to life.

Big Little Lies on Prime Video, for the five-star cast
Jane Chapman, a young single mother, has just arrived in a small coastal town in the United States with her son, Ziggy. There she meets the very extravagant Madeline, as well as Celeste, a former lawyer. The three women then become friends, until an incident shakes up this little world of luxury and false pretenses…
Don’t even hesitate to start the series: Big Little Lies is simply one of the best HBO productions. With its exceptional cast (Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and even Meryl Streep), this adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel is a feminist summit, which weaves a well-crafted plot around a mysterious murder.
The cliffhangers follow one another to the rhythm of the two seasons of Big Little Lies, which develop ultra badass female characters as well as an enjoyable satire of the rich. Note that the series is available on Prime Video via the Warner pass, at a price of €9.99 per month.

Daisy Jones and the Six on Prime Video, for the love of rock’n’roll
Sometimes, an adaptation can perfectly complement the original work, by providing elements that are impossible to transcribe into literature. This is the case with music Daisy Jones and the Six, based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Thanks to the series, we can happily hear the compositions of this fictional group from the 1970s, who suddenly decided to break up at the height of their glory.
Despite a completely invented story, the story is halfway between documentary and fiction, mixing on-camera interviews and flashbacks. In front Daisy Jones and the Sixwe obviously think of existing groups like Fleetwood Mac, whose extraordinary rock rise is close to this hypnotizing story in the heart of the 1970s.
Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) and Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders, Enola Holmes) lead this rhythmic adaptation with hippie colors, in just 10 sumptuous episodes.

The power on Prime Video, to electrify the crowds
One fine morning, women around the world wake up with an unexpected power: to generate electricity with a simple wave of their hand. Now capable of inflicting the best and the worst, the “weaker sex” dominates the world as it pleases, including politics and religion. If this summary might seem like the beginnings of a utopia, be careful: The power is much more complex and nuanced.
A true sci-fi masterpiece, this novel by Naomi Alderman has finally been adapted in 2023, on Prime Video. Power relations are obviously upended in this hard-hitting choral series. A sort of response to The Handmaid’s Talerevolutionary and explosive.
Paper Girls on Prime Video, to cross time
In the late 1980s, Erin, MacKenzie, KJ and Tiffany are four fairly ordinary teenagers. While they distribute newspapers to earn pocket money, they are propelled into 2019. They will then meet older versions of themselves, but above all will have to save the universe, torn between two factions of time travelers.
Adapted from the comics by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls immediately attaches us to its four heroines, embarked against their will into an intense war.
