4 brands to follow that are committed to the environment

Environmental protection is more than ever one of the number one concerns of cosmetics brands. Here are 4 committed whose actions deserve to be known.

Natural formulas, solid or in the form of beauty powders, recyclable or refillable packaging, sourcing ingredients… Today, cosmetics must be environmentally friendly in addition to being effective in giving us beautiful skin and taking care of our hair. But faced with this growing expectation of consumers looking for a more responsible beauty routinewarning to greenwashing ! Green packaging and formulas based on natural ingredients are not always synonymous with more environmentally friendly company. Some even rely on these codes to sow doubt and make people believe that they are adopting an eco-responsible policy.

Fortunately, we can always count on some truly committed beauty brands like The Body Shop or Lush to name a few to do something for the planet while taking care of us. But other lesser known companies do just as much for the environment. Among them, Aveda, Biotherm, Guerlain and Origins. While some focus on a vital natural resource such as trees or water to fight against the depletion of natural resources and avoid waste, others choose a more global approach and multiply actions to make the world better. We present to you 4 that we believe in.

Aveda: a pioneering brand

Besides being fully vegan and of protect wildlife at its manufacturing site to support the animal cause, Aveda was the first company to sign the CERES principles in 1989, which focus on corporate responsibility and encourage the protection of the Earth and its inhabitants. Pioneer in the field, it has since accumulated actions at different scales to make a difference. It has donated more than $8 million to local organizations. Among its commitments, we note the assistance it provides to wildlife in the event of a natural disaster (such as with Hurricane Katrina), its mobilization to promote theaccess to drinking water in the world and its efforts to save water or the collection of its employees’ old mobile phones for the Recycle for Rainforest Project, which supported the preservation of forests and animals in Congo. Today as a consumer, we can also appreciate the fact that Aveda now offsets 100% of carbon emissions sending orders made on its website.

Origins: replanting trees to save forests

The Origins brand is constantly looking for solutions to limit its ecological footprint. To offset its carbon footprint, it honors its logo representing two trees in planting trees in the whole world. Eco-responsible packaging FSC-certified (i.e. made from cardboard from responsibly managed forests), recyclable, refillable, reusable, recycled or recoverable for its products and even a recycling approach for the counters and decoration of its stores: the brand also makes it a point of honor not to spoil these efforts on a daily basis.
