4 days in the forest – “It got quite fresh in the morning”

Peter Pavlicek (72) from Wilhering (Upper Austria) survived four days in the Mühlviertel after a fall. His emergency ration: dates and water. His summary: “In the morning it got quite fresh”.

It was his best present: On his 72nd birthday, Peter Pavlicek from Wilhering was found by a firefighter during a search in a wooded area in Alberndorf/Riedmark. After the Parkinson’s patient was helplessly stuck in a depression for four days because his illness meant he was no longer able to escape – we reported Visited “Krone” in the Kepler University Hospital. He only has numerous abrasions on his upper body. He says about his accident: “I’ve been a mushroom picker for 50 years, I often walk in this area. On Monday, in the onset of darkness, I couldn’t see exactly where I was stepping. It was difficult for me to take the right step. I fell, then got stuck in a funnel shaped depression. I couldn’t get out of it because of my Parkinson’s disease. I tried to crawl out, but that wasn’t crowned with success.” Luckily, emergency rations were on hand, so Pavlicek was stuck. His cell phone was in the car parked about 200 meters away at the edge of the forest. Luckily, he had emergency rations of medicine, two bottles, each with half a liter of water, and a pack of dates with him. Initially, the academician (technical mathematics) expected that he would soon be found. An optimism that was not justified.Waiting for rescue for three nights and four days Pavlicek had to hold out in his emergency situation for a total of three nights and four days. He wore only hiking boots, pants, Leiberl and tank top. Weren’t the nights terribly cold? He says: “It worked. It only got quite chilly very early in the morning.” Incidentally, on his tour, which turned into torture, Pavlicek found “two to three kilos of parasol, porcini mushrooms and red foot”. This year he is no longer looking: “The season is over.”
