4 original board games for the end-of-year holidays: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

We thought they were finished, too old and not digital enough to resist the wave of social networks. Yet, board games have never been so good, particularly among the youngest, who favor them. They play it like their parents, with family, but also in cafes or game libraries, where they are used as much for fun as for happy encounters. Together, it’s so much better!

You should know that 1,000 new games (or new versions of older games) arrive on the French market every year. But only about 100 are widely distributed.

“It reminds me of Uno”

I played Triggs on a Sunday afternoon with family. I play quite a few games regularly, including my favorites, Code Name, TTMC, Bang, Skyjo, games that are quick, easy to understand and fun.

The +: Triggs is easy to understand, without taking the lead…

THE – : …but is perhaps a little too easy.

My opinion : Triggs’ rules are easy to understand. The games are rather quick, between 15 and 20 minutes. This game reminds me a bit of UNO. Not very difficult to play, even a little simple for adults, very good for slightly younger players, around 10-12 years old. Once finished, we want to play againto improve your strategy and finish first.

“The game is worth spending some time on”

I am an occasional gamer, who usually plays Monopoly, Cluedo, Puissance 4, Othello, backgammon, mahjong and belote. I played with my husband, a couple of friends, several games in a row, and also young children.

The +: originality.

THE – : the somewhat long assimilation of the rules. And the bricks, a little small for children.

My opinion : globally, the duration of the game is satisfactory, neither too short nor too long – which is important, especially when playing with children. The game is interesting, engaging enough for adults, but not entertaining enough for children, who get bored quite quickly. We didn’t understand the rules the first time and had to reread them carefully several times, and do a few test games. That said, for adults, the game is worth spending a little time on. On the other hand, for children, it is difficult to let them play alone straight away, without an adult to explain to them.

“We’re going to play it again this weekend!”

I regularly play, with my partner, with friends or children, card games, especially yams, mahjong, Monopoly, Scrabble, Totem, Labyrinth… Pretty classic games.

The +: the suspense. We don’t know who is who, who the other players are riding for.

THE – : the suspense quickly ends if the bomb is discovered in the first turn by the first player… And the box is a little difficult to open.

My opinion : Time Bomb is a gripping game, but you need a little patience: the first setup is a bit long – especially when it comes to the number of players and card calculation. The instructions are not very clear. It took me about half an hour to understand the rules. The games can be very short if the bomb is discovered too quickly… So we are going to play it again this weekend!

“Nice, but a little too simple”

Playing board games is extremely convivial, during family gatherings or with friends. During the confinements, we played every evening, but since then, things have slowed down. We play a lot on vacation, a little on weekends, at the children’s request.

The +: appropriation, very fast. For someone who isn’t a gamer, it’s a good way to get started, without any hassle. And to play with young children, up to 11-12 years old.

THE – : It’s a somewhat simple game, which can be nice, but it will never become that game that you’re going to indulge in frantically, night after night. And then I don’t really like its plastic side – even the tray, which represents the sea, is made of plastic.

My opinion : I found the game nice, quite simple… and even very simple. We get the hang of it in a few minutes, but I’m afraid we’ll get bored of it. It has a checkers game aspect, always a bit of the same thing, you advance your pawn, the plates melt as you pass… It lacks surprises, twists and turns. But we must be able to practice with slightly small children.
