Since September 1, the mask is mandatory at work. To better support it throughout the day, we give you some tips.

Since September 1, 2020, masks are mandatory in companies. The measure is valid in all enclosed places bringing together several people: open space, meeting rooms, circulation areas, coffee corners and kitchen. The objective of this measure is to prevent a rebound in the epidemic by protecting the health of everyone in their workplace, but also of those close to them once they return home.

Here are some tips to help you enjoy your days at work despite wearing a mask.

1. To relieve the ears

Worn all day, the surgical mask can end up causing pain and irritation in the ears, due to the pressure exerted on them. To overcome the discomfort, there is an easy and accessible technique, which only requires a paper clip. The trick is to tie the rubber bands together using it.

2. So as not to dry out

The mask can give a more suffocating sensation of breathing or make us sweat more easily, if it is hot, if we are stressed. The Robert-Sauvé Research Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (IRSST) recommends promoting breathing through the nose. "This generates less heat and humidity which will be retained in the mask", specifies the Institute. To avoid suffering from the heat caused by the mask, it is advisable to act as in a heat wave, by drinking water very regularly, moistening your face from time to time – without wetting the mask.

Lips may also become slightly dry. In this case, do not hesitate to apply lip balm to moisturize them.

3. To avoid fogging the glasses

Masks have a disadvantage for wearers of glasses: fogging. To remedy this phenomenon, the first thing to do is to position the mask correctly and firmly pinch its tongue at the nose.

If this persists despite everything, some workarounds exist. The best known: wash your glasses with a little soap and water.

4. A little telecommuting when possible

If telecommuting is compatible with your job, opting for this solution a few days a week can help you better endure the days at the office with a mask. Given the pandemic context, teleworking remains recommended by the government and health authorities. If your company gives you a few days, this will allow you to put aside the mask when you are at home and overcome this embarrassment.
