HTC has distanced itself from the smart phone
for a few years, but the Taiwanese manufacturer has not abandoned it. And, very soon, the brand will return to the market.

The company’s VP has confirmed that a new smartphone will be announced next month, and it will be metaverse, AR and VR oriented.

A smartphone for the metaverse

HTC is ready to return to the smartphone market. It’s been years since the Taiwanese firm has marketed premium phones in our country, preferring to focus on VR headsets, like the HTC Vive. But things are about to change, as the brand is about to return with a unique new model. At World Congress 2022, the company’s vice president spoke to the site Digitimes and announced the arrival of a new smartphone, potentially high-end, from April.

Information about this flagship are still very vague. We don’t know anything about its technical data sheet or its features, but it could mark a new turning point for the manufacturer. This new model will indeed integrate features related to the metaverse and will be tailored for both AR and VR in order to better use applications that rely on this technology.

A smartphone to accompany its own metaverse?

HTC therefore seems determined to rush into the trend of the metaverse, in which Meta, Microsoft and other companies firmly believe. The Taiwanese firm has already taken its first steps there by launching its own metaverse, Viveverse, which will be accompanied by a galaxy of new applications and new technologies that can be used with all of the brand’s VR headsets.

With such a strategy, HTC will move away from the general public in favor of a more professional target. Dear Wang, CEO of the company, told WinFuture HTC’s ambition was to focus more on the business equipment market. For this, the company will offer virtual reality solutions that will facilitate daily exchanges, such as conferences or meetings. The launch of a smartphone to navigate between all these uses could be a powerful tool for this ambitious project. Now remains to know what the device has in the belly.
