The Chinese manufacturer CATL announces the production from the end of the year of a battery promising electric cars 400 km of autonomy in 10 minutes of fast charging.

To stand out from the competition, electric cars will very often highlight their autonomy. Going ever further by spending the minimum amount of time connected to the charging station is a bit of the sinews of war. All manufacturers go there with their announcement. Toyota promises 1200 km of autonomy in 10 minutes for example. At Stellantis and Saft, no figure, but a more efficient and cheaper battery to produce. What these projects have in common, however, is thatthey will not be concrete for several years.

THE Chinese manufacturer CATL could therefore take everyone by surprise with a drums with a more modest ambition, but no less revolutionary. The company, which provides among other things You’re hereannounces the mass production of a battery displaying 400 km range in 10 minutes of charging from the end of the year. This means that the first models would be sent to car manufacturers in 2024.

Dubbed Shenxing, or “divine movement”, it is “the first 4C super fast charging LFP battery”. LFP stands for Lithium Iron Phosphate, a type of battery very common in electric vehicles. The “4C” refers to the the taxeswhich indicates the maximum charging power that the battery admits, in relation to its capacity. For example, a 50 kWh “4C” battery will be able to fast charge up to 200 kWh (4×50).

Of course, the charging stations will have to follow. This should not be a problem with the generalization of fast chargers in the territory. CATL does not indicate the production cost of the battery, which will necessarily have an impact on that of the vehicle. Being produced in China, we also do not know if it will meet the new criteria to benefit from the ecological bonus in France, specifically designed for promote cars built in Europe.
