Released in theaters on February 16, 2022, Uncharted had mixed success, collecting $407 million worldwide for an estimated budget of $120 million. In France, the adaptation of the famous adventure video game attracted 2.5 million spectators.
Two years later, is a sequel in the cards? When the first installment was released, director Ruben Fleischer was very enthusiastic about it: “I can’t help but hope there will be a sequel. I think Sony is superstitious and doesn’t want to plan too much until we know how it will be received.”he confided to the microphone of Deadline.
Adventure is adventure
Interviewed by AlloCiné during the French promo, the director gave us some information about the aftermath, commenting on the post-credits scene which suggests that a sequel is possible. “The idea is not to recreate the first episode. The post-credits scene of the film was envisaged as a continuation of the adventures of our versions of Nathan and Sully”Ruben Fleischer replied to us during his visit to Paris.
“I wanted the audience to know that, hopefully, this isn’t the last time we see them. That they will continue their adventures and treasure hunts around the world. And I wanted us to catch up characters a little closer to what they are in the video game. The most important thing being Sully who arrives with this mustache that fans will recognize as his visual signature.”he added.

The mustache that has become cult
“I actually got a call today saying they had the script. I can’t grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, ‘Start growing your mustache. It’s okay take a while.’ I’ll be interested to see what the story is like and where this adventure is going to take us. But I’m excited, I know the audience really liked the first one, so we’ll see.”said Mark Wahlberg.
For the record, Uncharted follows Nathan Drake, played by Tom Holland. He is a shrewd and fearless thief, recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan to find the fortune of Ferdinand Magellan, which disappeared 500 years ago. What initially seems like a simple heist ultimately becomes a frantic race around the globe to seize the treasure before the ruthless Moncada, who is convinced that his family is the rightful heir to this fortune.
If Nathan and Sully succeed in deciphering the clues and solving one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they could win $5 billion and maybe even find Nathan’s long-lost brother… but it would still take- it that they learn to work together.
