If he has become a little rarer in the cinema over the past ten years (with the exception of his explosive participation in the Sonic franchise in the role of Dr. Robotnik), Jim Carrey has marked the 80s, 90s and even 2000 for his exceptional comic talent.
His madness, his generosity on screen, his incredible ability to disarticulate himself, to modify his face as if it were made of modeling clay, to transform himself into a cartoon character at will, made him one of of the greatest comedy actors of his generation.
From The Mask to Dumb and Dumber via Ace Ventura, Disjoncté or even the little-known Disastrous Adventures of the Baudelaire Orphans, this crazy chameleon has given us hours of laughter at the cinema.
A first role at 21
But before achieving stardom, like most of his acting counterparts, Jim Carrey was forced to prove himself by participating in much smaller projects. After trying (in vain) to join Saturday Night Live, he obtained one of the main roles in the comedy Rubberface for the CBC channel.
In this 50-minute TV film broadcast in 1983, the budding actor, then only 21 years old, opposite a young actress named Adah Glassbourg and played… a stand-up comedian. A very appropriate first role for Jim Carrey, who himself began his career on stage at the end of the 70s.

After this first experience, followed by a remarkable performance on the Tonight Show where he created an event with his numerous (and hilarious) imitations, the young actor still had to wait a few years before achieving fame.
In front of Francis Ford Coppola’s camera in Peggy Sue Got Married and alongside Clint Eastwood in Detective Harry: The Last Target, Jim Carrey played small roles for almost a decade, until 1994 when his career literally took off thanks to three popular successes: Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and especially The Mask.
