Of the 30 pages that the study contains, there are three very important figures to remember:
– The presence of a significant illegal offer : in fact, if 14,450 films are available in the legal offer (i.e. 43% of films released between 1950 and 2021), there are 14,154 films (i.e. 42% of films released between 1950 and 2021), which are available on illegal services. Worse, nearly 4,000 films are available exclusively on illicit services.
– 57% of films unavailable in the legal offer. If 43% of films released in theaters between 1950 and 2021 are legally available, this means that there are 57% which are not, or the majority. However, this mainly applies to older films, since the vast majority of recent films are available on legal video on demand: 79% of films from the 2010s and 84% of films released in theaters in 2020 and 2021.
– 95% of films legally available are available on a TVOD service, not requiring a subscription. This represents 13,666 films, or 41% of films released in theaters. ARCOM also mentions a strong overlap of TVOD and SVOD offers, since 38% of films, or 5,426 films, are available at the same time in VOD and SVOD.
