  • Bern, Zug, Kloten and Lugano suffer sensitive defeats in the 44th round of the National League in the fight for the playoffs.
  • Leader Geneva-Servette wins the top battle against the Lakers, Biel stays in step thanks to a 3-2 in Davos.

Bern – Lausanne 1:4

SC Bern suffered a serious setback in the fight for the direct playoff places. The Bernese lost 4-1 to Lausanne in front of their home crowd. The gap to the 1st stroke is now 7 points. The guest from Lausanne used a penalty with the final whistle of the first period by Ramon Untersander to score the first goal after the break. 14 seconds before the end of the second round, Jiri Sekac made it 2-0. In the 56th minute, the Czech also had the answer to SCB’s goal in the meantime.

Zug – Ambri 2: 3 a.e.t

Another potential playoff candidate was tied back in Zug. In the 4th Gotthard Derby against Ambri, the champion fought back twice after falling behind, but was still punished in the end for a shaky performance. After just 14 seconds in extra time, Tim Heed secured the extra point for the Leventiners. While Zug’s gap to a direct playoff spot grows to 6 points, Ambri climbs back to a pre-playoff spot.

Ajoie – Kloten 5:3

Kloten also lost momentum in the final spurt of the season. The climber conceded the 5th defeat in a row at the bottom of the Jura. After 47 minutes, the airport townsfolk were apparently hopelessly behind at 0:4 in Pruntrut, but thanks to three goals within three minutes, the guests were suddenly close to winning a point again. Matteo Romanenghi (60th) ended Kloten’s race to catch up with an empty netter and thus also Ajoie’s series of defeats.

Geneva-Servette continues to circle lonely at the top of the National League. The leader surrendered a 2-0 lead in the top game against the third-placed Lakers en route to a sixth straight win. But the people of Geneva were not really shocked. Just 56 seconds after the 2-2 equaliser, Linus Omark put the home team back in front. This also ended the 4th duel of the season between the two teams with only one goal difference.

ZSC Lions – SCL Tigers 3:2 nP

In the game between the Lions and the Tigers, the music played in the starting third. Both teams scored twice and impressed on the power play. With Dean Kukan and Juho Lammikko, Zurich took advantage of both of their opportunities. The Langnauer were also successful through Aleksi Saarela in their only power play situation. After that, both teams continued to suffer a lot of penalties, but no more goals were scored. After Tigers defender Sebastian Schilt wiped the disc off the goal line at the beginning of extra time, the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Because only Lammikko and Simon Bodenmann scored there, the Lions secured the extra point.

Davos – Biel 2:3

Second in the table, Biel, remains in step with leader Geneva thanks to a narrow away win in Davos. The Seelanders came back twice from behind and took home three points from the Davos ice rink for the first time since October 2018. The winning goal for Biel was scored by Finn Toni Rajala, who was able to end a long dry spell with the 3:2 six minutes before the end of the game. Before that, Luca Hischier and Jesper Sallinen had equalized for the guests. Hischier, who scored his 10th goal of the season in the 1-1 draw, set up Rajala’s winning goal.
