ROME, April 12 (Reuters) – Forty-five migrants trying to reach Europe from Tunisia are missing after their ship capsized on Wednesday in the Mediterranean Sea, the International Organization for Migrants (IOM) said on Friday. United Nations agency, citing testimonies from survivors.
The Italian coast guard announced Wednesday that it had found nine bodies and rescued 22 people when another ship sank. The survivors were brought to the island of Lampedusa, the port which receives many migrants seeking to reach the European Union (EU). The IOM said on its X account that its employees on the island of Lampedusa learned from survivors that a second ship leaving Tunisia had also capsized on Wednesday, and that all 45 passengers were missing.
