45% of French people do not work in confinement

According to an Odoxa survey, 45% of the active workers surveyed no longer work because of confinement. Some are on partial unemployment and others on sick leave.

Telecommuting or not working at all, that is the question. Many workers have had to adapt to this very particular situation where "staying at home" is a doctrine, to avoid being contaminated by the coronavirus. And many have had to resign themselves to no longer working because of the closure of their workplace or because they had to babysit.

An Odoxa survey, carried out for Franceinfo and Challenges, has just revealed that 45% of the working people questioned no longer work because of confinement, whether they are on short-time working (a quarter of the employees are concerned, according to the Minister of Labor) or in sick leave.

"This Odoxa-Adviso Partners survey was carried out on the Internet from March 25 to 30, 2020, with a sample of 3,004 French people representative of the French population aged 18 and over."

To be a little more in detail: one in five French workers (20%) now works full-time telework. According to this survey, 4% alternate between teleworking and being at their usual place of work during the confinement imposed to fight against the Covid-19 epidemic. Huge differences appear according to the territories: 41% of the active telework in Île-de-France against only 11% in Normandy.

Telecommuting

Three-quarters of French people (76%) believe that teleworking should be more developed in France. But among the workers directly concerned, only 55% would like to be teleworked more often. The latter point to obstacles to efficiency, in particular the temptation to practice other activities during the day (cited by 49% of the active population), the organization of family life (46%) or promiscuity (43%) , knowing that almost half of teleworkers (43%) cannot isolate themselves in a room.

Some inequalities

The virus is, despite itself, a sign of inequalities in the workplace. While executives have been able to keep their work and exercise it comfortably in telework, the popular categories have either lost it or are forced to do it face-to-face, said Odoxa.

If we follow the survey, 6% of French people are in partial unemployment, only for part of their working time. In the end, a quarter of active French people (25%) always go to their workplace almost every day.

Fear of being contaminated in the workplace

The coronavirus generates great fears: 71% of the active say they are afraid of catching the virus while going to work, a phenomenon particularly sensitive among the agents of the public services. A quarter of working people (23%) are afraid of losing their job because of this epidemic. Employees in the trade-catering-accommodation and transport-warehousing sectors are the most worried about retaining their jobs.

This holy crisis also has an impact on the image that we have of companies. Three-quarters of French people (76%) believe that companies have behaved well during this crisis, only 4% of those questioned think they have behaved "very bad".
