The 49 euro ticket is coming. Exactly when is not yet clear, but possibly as early as the beginning of 2023. But where can you go with it?
A new “Germany ticket” is coming. It should be activated at the beginning of next year if possible and will cost 49 euros per month. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) and the state premiers agreed on this on November 2nd. Like the nine-euro ticket, it will be valid for local public transport. But what is there to consider?
Launch date still unclear
It has not yet been finally clarified when the new “Deutschlandticket” will come exactly. The introduction is planned “soon”, it says in the decision of the Prime Ministers’ Conference. The ticket could be implemented as early as January 1, 2023.
However, a later start in the year is more realistic. That was what Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (70, Alliance 90/The Greens) indicated before the start of the federal-state meeting. The countries wanted to implement the ticket as soon as possible, said Hermann the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” to. “It may not come until March 1st or April 1st.”
Monthly cancellable
The 49 euro ticket will be monthly terminable and apply to buses and trains in the entire German local transport system. This means that the local tariff jungle no longer has to be laboriously surveyed, and the purchase is particularly worthwhile in metropolitan areas. It can be purchased either as a plastic card or as a digital variant. Users of other public transport subscriptions should, if necessary, contact their local transport company to find out how a possible change can go smoothly.
The price for the “Deutschlandticket” could be higher from the second year after its introduction. It is planned that the subscription fee will automatically increase with the inflation rate.
Alternative offers of the countries
Individual federal states are even considering even cheaper offers. The Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil (63, SPD), for example, wants to offer a cheaper option for certain groups in Lower Saxony. In Berlin, there has been a regional 29-euro ticket for the city of Berlin since October. The offer in the federal capital is currently running out at the end of December, but is to be extended until the end of March 2023.
