Like RB Leipzig the night before against fourth-rate Teutonia Ottensen, Bayern Munich also had no problems with Viktoria Köln from the 3rd division on Wednesday. The record cup winner advanced to the second round with an unchallenged 5-0 win.
After all, the Cologne outsider could claim to have kept the zero against the German superior team until the 35th minute. This is by no means a matter of course. For comparison: neither Frankfurt (0:3 at this time), Wolfsburg (0:1) nor Bochum (0:3) succeeded in the first 3 rounds of the Bundesliga.
But after 20-year-old Ryan Gravenberch made it 1-0, the spell was broken from Bayern’s point of view. Before the break, the 17-year-old Mathijs Tel contributed the second goal. He also only joined Bayern in the summer. The 3-0 was also down to a newcomer: star striker Sadio Mané (30) scored his first cup goal for his new club (53rd).
The other goals were scored by Jamal Musiala (67′) and Leon Goretzka (82′), who came on after a long knee injury.
