When will the next part of this franchise be released at the cinema? On the occasion of the broadcast of Transformers The Last Knight on W9 this evening, what about a new film?
Will there be an 8th installment of Transformers? The latest episode of the saga was released on June 7, and attracted just over 1.1 million curious people in France. This 7th opus of the saga was directed by Steven Caple Jr, who succeeds Michael Bay (author of the first 5 films) and Travis Knight, who signed the spin-off on the yellow Autobot.
The franchise, which brought in 4.8 billion dollars at the worldwide box office (to which we can add the 458 million generated worldwide by the latest installment), will it continue its adventure in the cinema with an 8th movie ? The answer is yes ! Announced in April 2020, Transformers One will hit theaters on September 11, 2024.
However, it will not be a live action feature film but an animated film which will be directed by Josh Cooley, author of Toy Story 4. Just like Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, Transformers One will set its action before the events recounted in the original Michael Bay films.
This time, Earth will not be the playground of the Autobots and Decepticons. The plot will take us to Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers. The story will notably explore the relationship between the hero Optimus Prime and the antagonist Megatron.
In the meantime, if you haven’t seen Rise of the Beasts yet, it’s available on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD. This part takes place in the heart of the 90s and takes us to the four corners of the globe. An all-new faction of Transformers robots – the Maximals – will join the Autobots in their eternal battle against the Decepticons.
Moreover, (SPOILER ALERT), the end of Rise of the Beasts announces a future crossover between the Transformers and GI Joe franchises. Will the super-soldiers be called upon to lend a hand to the Autobots in the continuation of their war against the Decepticons during an explosive collaboration? The mystery is still complete. Moreover, this is not the first time that the idea of a shared universe around Hasbro licenses has been mentioned. This time, the project seems to be coming to fruition.
