5 details to remember from the sublime trailer for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake

Konami revealed a gameplay trailer for the remake of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (the best opus of the cult saga). It is already an eye-catcher thanks to the use of the Unreal Engine 5 engine.

It’s a week dedicated to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. While Konami has just launched a new compilation, the Japanese firm took advantage of the Xbox Partner Preview showcase broadcast on October 25 to show gameplay of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.

Announced last May, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater — the best opus of the saga created by Hideo Kojima. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PC, at a date currently unknown. While waiting to find out more, here is what we can take away from the trailer.

What we remember from the latest MGS3 video

It’s really beautiful

The Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine is truly the future of gaming (more so than Unity, in all likelihood). These images of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater prove it. To give a second lease of life to its gem initially released in 2004 on PlayStation 2, Konami did not make a bad choice. The environments, mostly wild, are sublime. The lights are perfectly rendered. The character modeling – Snake in the lead – is ideal. As a bonus, there are lots of little details that catch the eye. The result is a photorealistic rendering perfectly suited to the experience.

Essence of Preserved Infiltration

The danger with a remake is to go a little too far in the changes. But let the fans rest assured, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is not going to become a purely action-oriented game. The few gameplay sequences show us a hero always inclined to sneak between enemy soldiers, taking advantage of the environments to hide in order to eliminate them without making any noise. Konami doesn’t want to betray its legacy — it’s already done that enough with its lazy compilation.

We can still aim in first person view

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is a video game that is played in the third person (read: we see the character on the screen). But it will also be possible to switch to first person view (like in a shooting game) to aim more precisely. This element of the MGS saga was first introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Libertyand it’s excellent news to see that it will still be there.

More realism for the camouflage part?

More than an infiltration game, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will be a survival game in a hostile environment. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first film Predator, Snake can cover himself in mud to better blend in and surprise his enemies. In the original game, this involved different outfits adapted to the colors of the settings. In the remake, Konami seems to take the possibilities even further. This is also one of his promises, with “ Extensive features in combat for survival “.

Animals, do you want some, here they are

Crocodile, snake, rat, crab, bird… If the flora is there, the fauna has not been sacrificed. There will be lots of animals in Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater and fans probably remember that they could be hunted and eaten. Be careful, some are likely to poison the hero and make him vomit.
