Focus on these famous series characters whose particularity is not to have a name! Yes, yes, there are a few!
Heroes or heroines of series that have no names? It exists ! From Fleabag to X-Files to Sex & the City to Doctor Who, some characters, sometimes even the lead role, are devoid of identity. The proof by 5!
In “Doctor Who”
As a reminder, Doctor Who (currently played by Jodie Whittaker, first woman in the role) is an e900 year old alien. This adventurer travels through time and space using his ship, the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) which, to better adapt to the environment, has the appearance of a telephone booth .
In “X Files”
The Cigarette Man, so nicknamed because he was always seen smoking a cigarette in the dark, is one of the main antagonists of the cult SF show. The name of this character will be partially revealed in season 6 of X-Files, then fully during the first episode of the eleventh and final season. We are therefore dealing with a certain Carl Gerhard Busch Spender, who has the notable distinction of being Mulder’s biological father.
In “Flea Bag”
The choice not to give a real identity to the character was quite conscious on the part of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “I wanted something that would create an immediate subtext for the character,” she said in an interview with Decide. “Calling it Fleabag, calling the series Fleabag, so gives the subtext of being somebody Fleabag.”
The term Fleabag, according to the Cambridge University definition, is used to describe “a dirty and/or unpleasant person or animal”. By not giving her heroine a real name but this name, Phoebe Waller-Bridge therefore wanted to highlight this not really glorious side of the character.
In “Sex & the City”
In “The Prisoner”
You obviously recognized here the synopsis of the Prisoner, the cult science fiction series of the 60s led by a Patrick McGoohan whose character is therefore deprived of his identity, which we will never know. Note that the main villain of the anticipation show, played by Leo McKern, also has no name since we know him as Number 2.
