If you are a fan ofX Files, you must know what is THE character of the series who does not have a name! It is obviously The Man with the Cigarette (Tea Cigarette Smoking Man in VO), played on screen by Canadian actor William B. Davis.

The Cigarette Man, so nicknamed because he was always seen smoking a cigarette in the dark, is one of the main antagonists of the cult SF show. The name of this character will be partially revealed in season 6 of X-Files, then fully during the first episode of the eleventh and final season. We are therefore dealing with a certain Carl Gerhard Busch Spender, who has the notable distinction of being Mulder’s biological father.

In “Flea Bag”

BBC Three

Series flea bagled by actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, recounts thehe funny and touching daily life of a scathing, sex-oriented, angry and bereaved woman who does what she can to survive modern London life. But what is the real name of Fleabag? We’ll never know !

The choice not to give a real identity to the character was quite conscious on the part of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “I wanted something that would create an immediate subtext for the character,” she said in an interview with Decide. “Calling it Fleabag, calling the series Fleabag, so gives the subtext of being somebody Fleabag.”

The term Fleabag, according to the Cambridge University definition, is used to describe “a dirty and/or unpleasant person or animal”. By not giving her heroine a real name but this name, Phoebe Waller-Bridge therefore wanted to highlight this not really glorious side of the character.

In “Sex & the City”

Warner Bros. France

In the cult series Sex & the City, there are four unforgettable heroines, but also a man devoid of identity! Nicknamed during the six seasons of the show Mr. Big (for “The Big Love”), the character played by Chris Noth, who has a somewhat turbulent romantic relationship with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), will be “unmasked” during the Series Final. Mr. Big’s real name, revealed on Carrie’s cell phone, is therefore John James Preston!

In “The Prisoner”

Everyman Movies

When a British secret agent resigns, he is kidnapped by a mysterious group and held prisoner in “The Village”, a place from which there is no getting out, and in which the only name is a number. He will be number 6 and has only two solutions to leave this place: confess the reason for his resignation or find a way to escape…

You obviously recognized here the synopsis of the Prisoner, the cult science fiction series of the 60s led by a Patrick McGoohan whose character is therefore deprived of his identity, which we will never know. Note that the main villain of the anticipation show, played by Leo McKern, also has no name since we know him as Number 2.
