For this new opus of the adventures of Neo, Keanu Reeves puts on dark glasses again, as well as Carie-Anne Moss in the role of Trinity. Other characters well known to fans also return, but in the guise of new actors, and Lana Wachowski is this time alone in the production.

Matrix Resurrections, what is it about?

The film starts in the Matrix, and we find Thomas Anderson, now a video game designer and known for his trilogy The Matrix. The man seems to have no memory of his past, but has a few visions that lead him to believe that this world isn’t quite real.

Thomas will finally meet Bugs, a rebel escaped from the Matrix who will show him the truth and bring him back to the real world, to save humanity again from the yoke of the machines.

5 reasons to see Matrix Resurrections

This fourth opus of the Matrix saga is full of qualities, which should convince you not to miss it:

  • A meta movie : Matrix Resurrections has fun with the heritage of the trilogy, but also to point the finger at the excesses of pop-culture in recent years by breaking the fourth wall. Jubilatory!
  • A real sequel to Matrix : if the first hour can be disconcerting, Matrix Resurrections is a direct sequel to the first three films, with real answers to certain questions,… and bringing new unanswered questions.
  • Neo and Trinity : more than just a science fiction film, Matrix 4 is above all the love story between these two characters, despite the hardships until a heartbreaking finale.
  • action : what would Matrix be without its kung-fu fights? Obviously Matrix Resurrections follows in the footsteps of its glorious elders with several clashes and a frenzied chase in the streets of San Francisco.
  • A reinvention of Matrix : far from being a simple continuity to the trilogy, Matrix 4 offers a new angle of view on the saga, and new themes already explored in the excellent series Sense8 of the Wachowski sisters.

5 reasons NOT to see Matrix Resurrections

Matrix Resurrections is a film that does not leave anyone indifferent and these reasons can push you to go your way:

  • A very present meta speech : if on our side, we loved this criticism of the Hollywood industry, it takes up a lot of space and could tire some viewers.
  • A poor staging : the action scenes do not have the class of those of the first films and no striking plan strikes the retina.
  • A cutesy speech : Matrix 4 treats its love story with an absolute first degree, which can legitimately annoy
  • Keanu Reeves : the actor hasn’t played for a long time and carries his John Wick character from film to film. Matrix 4 is no exception.
  • A disappointing real world : The real-world passages plague the film, with hazy concepts and creature designs bordering on the grotesque.

With its subscription price still (slightly) more attractive than the others, Prime Video is a very interesting SVoD solution. If it still lacks a few additional flagship series to be able to be fully compared to Netflix, the platform offers a varied and sufficiently rich catalog to keep you busy for a while. It also pulls out of the game with its X-Ray functionality and excellent video quality which can help forgive a few bugs here and there.
