Choosing which activities to organize during the school holidays is not easy. They must be entertaining, funny, but above all that they please everyone (without leaving half of your salary there). Discover our 5 ideas for free activities to make your All Saints’ Day holidays with your family unforgettable!

On October 23, arrives the long-awaited holidays for children and teenagers. A good opportunity to rest from those first two months of school but also to read, take a walk, have a good time with the family and above all … prepare for Halloween.

Because yes, the All Saints holidays rhyme above all in the minds of the youngest with Halloween, one of the highly anticipated events each year in France. Halloween is a feast of Anglo-Celtic origin celebrated by more than 38% the French. A moment of laughter, of gluttony but above all of fear… On October 31st, all emotions run wild. We must admit that playing scary is funny. But, for some, the most interesting thing about this tradition is the candy hunt: the children go from house to house asking for treats. It is called in the USA the “trick or treat”, “a bonbon ou un sort”, in French. In order to scare and be in the theme, nothing better than a disguise (more or less scary) to go knocking at the neighbors.

To occupy the children and make them unforgettable memories, here are 5 free activities to do with them during the holidays.

Create your bat costume

Rather than buying a brand new costume, why not create it with your child? Spoiler: It won’t be perfect, of course, but it will be done with love. For this you need several fabrics and objects.

For the body of the bat:

  • A black long sleeve shirt
  • Black tight leggings

For the bat wings:

  • Cut two pieces of black and gray felt, shaped like bat wings.
  • Cut the black felt smaller and I sewed it onto the gray felt.
  • Sew thick rubber bands to the ends of the wings like armbands so that he can slip his arms through them.
  • Secure the top of the wings to the shirt in a few places like the neck and shoulders.

To make the mask:

  • Cut a thick strip of black felt, cut out two eye holes and I tied the back to a piece of thick black elastic.

“Relax” in front of a horror film

Nothing better than a horror movie surrounded by family and friends, but not to mention a nice plaid, a hot drink and delicious pops corn.

Our recommendation: The Hotel Transylvania movie saga
For who :
For children of all ages.

The story :
The films tell the story of the character of Count Dracula, owner of Hotel Transylvania, (and guaranteed free of humans and with monsters since 1898). There are 4 Hotel Transylvania films to date. The last one being released in 2021. The stories are different however we find, each time, the character Jonathan who takes advantage of his youth to travel the world. Even though he’s only a human, he’s not shy when he meets all these friendly monsters and the pretty Mavis. His meeting with Dracula promises to spark!

Why we like:
Because this cartoon changes everything we are used to seeing. To talk about the soundtrack, she’s moving! The movies will inevitably make you laugh a lot and make you move from your seat …
The most important thing to remember is that Hotel Transylvania movies are great for family viewing. There are sometimes very 80’s references for parents, it speaks of monsters that everyone knows, of legends that are told from generation to generation. And finally, because there is always a nice moral on friendship and especially the importance of family and love.

The first three movies are available on Netflix and the last one on Amazon.

Organize a game where everyone will have fun

What could be better than playing games to have fun and laugh together. Do-it-yourself games are more user-friendly than online games. They will be sure to liven up your holidays and your Halloween evenings!

Here’s how to create your own Chamboule-tout
All you need to do is collect old tin cans and get sheets of colored paper. Collecting these boxes is also a good recycling opportunity. In addition, large milk cans are very suitable for smaller ones, (they are easier to target). Then, make sure to cut the sheets of paper so that they completely cover the cans. Finally, draw the faces of ugly monsters on your papers using markers of all colors and glue the decorated leaves on the boxes.
Arrange the boxes in a pyramid on a table.

The rule of the game: Place yourself a few meters from the table and drop as many boxes as possible using a ball or a sock filled with sand or semolina and tied. And above all, don’t forget to count your points!
