You like question and answer games, but are a little fed up with them? Trivial Pursuit? We understand you, and that’s why we offer you some much more fun alternatives.
Among the plethora of knowledge or question-and-answer games that exist, it is unfortunate to note that the most famous, and undoubtedly by far the best-selling, is also one of the worst.
Trivial Pursuit, since it is about him, is a dated game whose playful springs no longer work in 2023 (and for a long time already). Either we know the answer to the question posed to us, and we don’t really enjoy ourselves, or we don’t know it, and we enjoy ourselves even less.
Fortunately, other games manage to reinvent the genre to make it much more interesting and attractive. Here is our selection.
Fauna: the family question and answer game
How much does a mute swan weigh? How long is the tail of a short-beaked echidna? In which regions does a sacred ibis live?
Each round, a new animal is drawn, and the players estimate its characteristics on the large central board. The correct answers earn points, the close ones a little less, and the wrong ones are penalizing for the future. Isn’t it better to pass than to make a mistake?
A family game that appeals to both children and adults (who will remember the Wonders of the World chocolate bars from their childhood).
iKnow: the knowledge game in which you can win without knowing anything
The same question is asked to everyone. But before answering, everyone chooses the number of clues they want to hear: 1, 2 or 3. Then, after having answered, they bet on the answers of the others.
Points are thus scored both on one’s own knowledge and on collective knowledge. It is therefore possible to win without having ever answered a single correct answer… provided you bet on the right people.
Le Grand KiwiZ: a question and answer game that works by elimination
In each round, nine propositions, but only one is true. In turn, both teams must eliminate a wrong answer. The further you go, the more points you score. But beware, because if you make a mistake, you lose a lot…
Thanks to a clever system, all the proposals seem coherent, and, obviously, it is very unlikely that we know the right answer. An original quiz game therefore, since it is deduction that takes precedence, not necessarily knowledge.
Smart 10: the perfect knowledge game for the aperitif
Each round, a question is proposed in the center of the plastic box. Accompanied by ten answers, hidden by small buttons.
In turn, we remove one to check if our answer is correct. If yes, we score a point, if not… we lose all those of the round. Be careful not to be too greedy.
Ideal to play while having an aperitif, slumped around the living room table, passing the case one after the other.
There is also an adult version (Smart 10 – The Sassy ), with slightly more daring questions, but without getting gritty.
How much do you wear? The game where you have to test your knowledge
TTMC(How much do you wear? ) looks just like the Trivial Pursuit: a board with boxes and cards with questions.
All the interest comes from the fact that we estimate our own knowledge in the imposed theme, on a scale of 1 to 10. For example, how much do you put yourself in “Advertising slogans”, in “Synchronized swimming” or in “Eggs of chicken ” ? Level 1 is very easy, level 10 reserved for experts. Some spaces on the board reveal good and less good surprises. It’s up to you to gauge yourself well and move forward strategically…
