Taken by the madness Marie Kondo, you decided to tidy up your interior from top to bottom. The storage expert promises to change your interior and your way of thinking. But before you start, here are some mistakes to avoid!
We no longer present Marie Kondo, become the pope of storage, author of The magic of storage. The KonMari method allows you to get rid of disorder once and for all. But sometimes changing entrenched habits is not that easy. Here are the 5 mistakes to avoid to restore order in your home and in your life.
Mistake # 1: put away "a little bit every day"
A cupboard here, a drawer there … Unfortunately, it can't be seen and you won't be able to change your habits like that! "Tidy up a little each day and you will never stop tidying up", as Marie Kondo says it so well. To get rid of the mess, a more radical method is needed.
Store in one go for visible results. A little exhausting for the body, of course, but good for your morale! The ideal: plan an entire weekend dedicated to storage.
Mistake # 2: store without sorting
Nothing worse than tidying up by putting all your bazaar in pretty labeled storage boxes. The boxes are piled up on top of each other and they have to be completely emptied in order to be able to get their hands on an object … In short, we camouflage the disorder without eradicating it.
Before storing, you must throw (or give)! Especially since by donating these objects, this will make it possible to power a second-hand circuit and therefore give a second life to objects that were no longer useful to you.
Error # 3: sort by piece
Starting with one piece and then tackling another is not necessarily a good idea, according to Marie Kondo. As a result, when you have finished tidying up the room, the kitchen is already a mess.
Do not sort by room but by category. Marie Kondo invites you to classify the objects by family of objects, in the following order: start with the clothes, then go to books, papers, various objects (komono) and finish with the things with sentimental value.
Mistake # 4: Keep saying "you never know"
The typical sentence of people suffering from the syndrome to want to throw nothing "just in case". It is this famous drawer in which we find everything and anything: rubber bands, old cables, buttons … "It can be used". Admit it: no, it never is.
Don't be afraid to throw it away. With the KonMari method, any unused object or one that does not bring joy goes to the trash!
Mistake # 5: stacking clothes
You systematically make batteries, for books, papers, boxes … and for clothes. A real puzzle to find THE little blouse that hides at the bottom. "When we stack our clothes, we put less and less those at the bottom of the pile" wrote even Marie Kondo.
Fold vertically, forming a sort of rectangle for each element of your wardrobe. The queen of storage has developed an unstoppable method for organizing your clothes. The key: space saving, practicality and above all an overview of your wardrobe in the blink of an eye.
