5 styling mistakes that can make you look older than you are

It's not just the makeup and hairstyle that affect how old we are valued. Our look also plays a big part in the impression we make. If you avoid these styling mistakes, you will never be valued older than you really are.

We all remember: When we were 15 we really wanted to look like we'd grown up long ago, while our look today is allowed to cheat us a year or two younger. We just don't want to look older than we are – and luckily we don't have to, as long as we avoid these styling mistakes.

1. Skin colored tights

They ensure an even complexion and at least provide minimal protection against cooler temperatures – but unfortunately also cost us a few years visually. We're talking about the greatest fashionable love-hate relationship aka skin-colored tights. If it's too cold outside for bare legs, go for black stockings – either semi-transparent (super sexy!) Or opaque (conjures up long legs!).

2. Tweed, cord & Co.

Don't get us wrong: We love tweed, cord, velvet or bouclé – but the mix sets the tone here. Anyone who wears a good dress with a boxy tweed jacket or a cardigan with corduroy trousers quickly looks very old-fashioned and is more reminiscent of an old English lady than a cool fashionista. We don't have to do without the classy pieces – we just style them properly. The tweed jacket with lingerie top and lederhosen makes it big, and cord gets a trendy update in the form of an overcut power suit.

3. Seidencarré

Our grandmothers must have a whole drawer full of colorful silk scarves that we always admired them for as children. And yes, even today some of us are sure to dream of a Carré from Hermès. Completely understandable, which is why it would be a shame to let such a piece of jewelry gather dust in the depths of the wardrobe. Instead of knotting it around your neck, which can quickly give your look a granny touch, you should rather rely on more creative styling alternatives. How about if you tie the scarf in your hair or put it around the handle of your favorite bag? Even as a framed picture in the living room, an elaborately printed cloth can become a real eye-catcher.

4. Pearl jewelry

Pearls celebrated a real revival in fashion last summer – and rightly so! Instead of the classic, perfectly rounded pearls that Grandma used to wear, fashionistas turned to the baroque pearls, which were not quite as accurately formed. In the XXL version with gold wire or super small as a choker strung together, the pearl gets such a cool upgrade and is guaranteed not to be confused with its dusty predecessor. A real fountain of youth for your look!

5. Kittenheels

We love heels! They stretch your leg and conjure up a great walk. However, too many inches under the feet are a guarantee of pain. The solution: Kttenheels. But beware! Because the mini heels (no higher than five centimeters!) Quickly appear slippery and old-fashioned and suddenly make us older than we are. Since we (and the designers) do not want to do without the shoe model, we make sure that the heel only adorns boots or mules or comes in a geometric shape.
