5 tips for tidying up your bedroom quickly and efficiently

Whether it's yours or your child's, a tidy bedroom is always a pleasure to see! To feel good there, it is therefore important to have a good organization. Storage ideas, sorting clothes … We give you some tips for quick and efficient storage!

Children are often criticized for not tidying their room, but we are not faultless when it comes to keeping a room more or less tidy! At home, whether it's the kitchen, living room or office area, we like it when everything is tidy and in its place. To avoid accumulating clutter, here are some ideas and tips for optimal storage!

1. Take the time to make your bed

When you enter a room, you immediately lay your eye on THE centerpiece of this space: the bed. So inevitably, when it is not done, we only see that and that can give the impression of a room in a mess. Every morning, we then think above all to air the room for at least ten minutes. Then, carefully put his duvet and pillows back in place. You will see, it is much more aesthetic and it immediately looks more tidy! If you have children, do not hesitate to involve them in household chores as well. By gradually involving them and teaching them these new tasks, they will eventually become more independent and will even be proud to be able to make the bed like their parents!

2. Sort your wardrobe

The more the seasons pass, the more your wardrobe overflows? Rest assured, this is completely normal. But to make room in your wardrobe, it is important to sort it out once or twice a year and to separate yourself from clothes that you no longer wear, that no longer fit or that you no longer like. We keep the essential parts, those that we will certainly postpone next year. The result: a cabinet that is much lighter, better tidy and in which you can immediately see more clearly! For optimal sorting, we advise you to take garbage bags with you to put the clothes you no longer want to keep.

Ditto for the children's closet, sorting regularly is essential! To find your way around, put all the things on the bed and start sorting and tidying up by making three piles: clothes in good condition that you keep, those who are too small and that you can give, sell on the internet or pass on to your youngest child, and those who are worn out and that you can reuse in rags.

3. Put your clothes in the right way

Even though we almost all have a wardrobe in our bedroom, nothing helps: we like to pile our clothes on a chair and put them away only on weekends, once the week is over. It's a bad habit and it also feels like a messy room. In the evening or in the morning, we take the time to put our things away in the cupboard provided for this purpose. To bring more order to this space which is often overflowing with clothes, we recommend that you adopt the Marie Kondo storage method.

Known worldwide, the KonMari method is ideal for those looking to gain precious centimeters in their dressing room and / or maximize the space in their closet. His trick? Switch to vertical folding. A technique that allows you to have an overview of all of your clothes and also helps to avoid wrinkled clothes. "Wrinkles are created by the pressure exerted on the clothes. By storing your clothes vertically, they are not crushed and the folds do not mark.", she explains in her bestseller The magic of storage.

For the children's room, we do a little different storage. To make your child's daily life easier, tidy up so that all the belongings are up to him and sort the clothes by category. Make sure to reserve a floor or a drawer for sweaters, pants etc. Your child will find it easier and save time in the morning!

4. Choose the right locations for the right items

Books, papers, toys … We accumulate a lot of things in a room! To avoid the mess in this living room, each object must have its place. To tidy up quickly and efficiently, opt for simple and practical storage such as pretty boxes or pretty baskets which can also serve as decoration. These will be perfect for storing papers or books. In a child's or teenager's room, think about wall storage which will allow you to have an overview of books, for example, and thus choose them more quickly.

For toys, your best bet is to invest in large wooden bins or a large plastic box. These are objects that will be part of the decoration so pay attention to the choice of design! For dirty laundry, think of fabric baskets or wicker baskets which, in addition to making an impact in the room, are essential for an organized and tidy room.

To organize your chest of drawers or your wardrobe, we recommend the compartment storage which allows you to have storage by category of clothing. You will thus have a compartment for your panties, one for your socks, one for your tights, one for your accessories such as belts etc. And it also works for your child's / teenager's wardrobe!

5. Take the opportunity to do a big cleaning

Since you sort and tidy, take the opportunity to do a big room cleaning! We advise you to proceed step by step:

  • Clean the inside of your closet, cabinet or dresser with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Dust off furniture and accessories that attract dust – such as boxes for example – using a microfiber cloth or an anti-static duster.
  • Leave the windows open and shake out your carpets, linens etc.
