50 meters deep – 61-year-old fell to his death while climbing

On Sunday, in front of several witnesses, a 61-year-old from the Liezen district fell around 50 meters on the Kampermauer (Weyer municipality). Any help came too late for the experienced athlete; even resuscitation measures that were initiated immediately were no longer of any help.

On Sunday around 2:20 p.m., witnesses reported that a person had fallen from a great height on the Kampermauer in the Weyer municipality. The emergency medical helicopter “Martin 3”, the Windischgarsten police, the Alpine police and the mountain rescue then went to the scene. Several climbers present there attempted resuscitation until the emergency medical team arrived, but tragically any help came too late for the climber. Untangled rope ends According to eyewitnesses, the 61-year-old from the Liezen district (Stemk.) climbed several routes in the lead, securing himself and just wanted to abseil down to his belay spot. The experienced climber fell approximately 50 meters to the base of the wall and suffered fatal injuries. The cause of the accident was determined by the Alpine police to be untangled rope ends during abseiling.
