Due to the discontinuation of LCD panel production by Samsung Display in June 2022, the proportion of LCD panels from China is gradually increasing in Samsung TVs. According to figures published by the Korean magazine The Elec, 26% of Samsung televisions in 2023 are equipped with LCD panels from CSoT, a subsidiary of TCL. The manufacturer HKC is the second supplier of Samsung, equipping 21% of the latter’s televisions, followed by BOE Display present on 11% of the Korean manufacturer’s televisions. In total, 58% of Samsung televisions are equipped with LCD panels from China. For the rest, we find the Japanese Sharp, which supplies 12% of the LCD panels, the Taiwanese AU Optronics and Innolux with respectively 11 and 10% and the Korean LG Display with only 8%. Samsung expects a volume of 38 million LCD TVs this year, compared to 34.2 million last year and 47.8 million in 2021.

Remember, however, that Samsung Display produces the QD-Oled panels that equip the excellent QD-Oled televisions from Samsung (S95B and S95C) and Sony (Bravia A95K). Indeed, due to the relocation of almost all LCD panel production to China, Korean manufacturers Samsung Display and LG Display have focused on the manufacture of QD-Oled and Oled panels. To meet the demand for Oled panels, LG Display has even opened an Oled production plant in China. Samsung has also planned to integrate Oled panels from LG Display in its televisions, which would be a first. The announcement is reportedly scheduled for IFA 2023, which kicks off in early September.
