5th bankruptcy in a row – FCZ can’t get anything in Norway either – sport

  • FC Zurich lost 2-1 away at Bodö/Glimt in the Europa League.
  • Donis Avdijaj scored the only goal for FCZ in the 81st minute.
  • This leaves the Swiss champion without a point in the current EL campaign.

In the end, Zurich reared its head again against Bodö/Glimt. In the final quarter of an hour, Antonio Marchesano (80′), Donis Avdijaj – he several times – and Ole Selnaes (90′) had some good chances. But countable only looked out in the 81st minute when Avdijaj circled a ball wonderfully into the far corner to make it 1:2.

Otherwise it was characteristic of the previous season of the Swiss champions: Again and again it was their own shortcomings that prevented a sense of achievement. Stumbling here, poor acceptance of the ball there. And at Selnaes’ conclusion centimeters from the gate only luck was missing.

Own goal initiates bankruptcy

The 0:2 mortgage, which ensures that coach Franco Foda’s team returns home from Norway empty-handed, was negotiated beforehand. After a meager first half, in which a Zurich goal by Aiyegun Tosin was disallowed for offsides, FCZ lost access to the game in the quarter of an hour after the break.

Ironically, the Norwegian Selnaes initiated the defeat against his compatriots with his own goal after a corner kick (53rd). Five minutes later, the FCZ defense was overwhelmed by a swift attack by Bodö and a shot by Hugo Vetlesen.

5th loss in a row

It was only afterwards that Zurich remembered that there are two teams in a football game. However, Jonathan Okita’s finish only landed on the bottom edge of the bar. After that, the Swiss representative increased, but in the end without any return on points.

The bottom line for the FCZ is the 5th defeat in a row. It could be easier next Sunday in the cup when it comes to Lausanne-Sport. But be careful: With Ludovic Magnin there is one on the sidelines who should be particularly motivated against his former employer.

The other Group A game between Arsenal and Eindhoven has been postponed to October 20 due to the Queen’s death. Nevertheless, the FCZ is still at the end of the table.
