6.1 magnitude earthquake off Indonesia kills two

JAKARTA (Reuters) – A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Friday, killing at least two people and causing tremors felt as far away as Singapore and Malaysia, authorities and witnesses said. .

No tsunami warning was issued, but residents of some areas of Soumatra province fled buildings, while evacuations were even ordered in Malaysia.

The head of Indonesia’s relief management agency said at least two people were killed. Some buildings, including a government headquarters and residential buildings, were damaged.
