Released November 1st – Ghibli fans can finally rejoice! 10 years after The Wind Rises, Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese maestro, finally unveils his new film, The Boy and the Heron. The story follows Mahito, an 11-year-old boy. After his mother disappears in a fire, he must leave Tokyo to live in the countryside in the village where she grew up.
He settles with his father in an old manor located on a huge estate where he meets a gray heron. The latter gradually becomes his guide and helps him through his discoveries and questions to understand the world around him and unravel the mysteries of life. The Boy and the Heron, released on July 14 in Japan, was seen by nearly 5 million people.
The feature film seduced the spectators, who thought they were “like in a dream”seeing in this film of “David Lynch at Ghibli.” Note that The Boy and the Heron is a free adaptation of the novel And you, how will you live? written by Genzaburo Yoshino and published in 1937.
