This horrific saga has already given us 5 films and it is clearly not about to stop. “American Nightmare 6” arrives with an actor well known to fans.
With 5 episodes released between 2013 and 2021, the American Nightmare franchise has generated $533 million in global revenue. Each component, produced on a limited budget, largely fulfilled its profitability contract. This is why a 6th opus will be released very soon!
The purge returns!
After leaving the director’s chair to Gerard McMurray and Everardo Gout for the last two films, James DeMonaco makes his comeback at the head of the saga. The filmmaker, to whom we owe the first three feature films, directs the 6th episode.
Asked by ScreenRant, comedian Frank Grillo, star of American Nightmare 2 and 3, confirmed the good news. The latter will return in the role of Leo Barnes, who will be the central character of this 6th iteration of the license.
“A great scenario”
“The script is finished. It would be the last of the last of the last. You know, it’s like the guy who keeps saying he’s going to retire. James DeMonaco is going to direct it; for now, the question budget is under discussion”, reveals the artist.
“It will depend on the studio, if they want a large-scale film or not. We will see how much they are willing to put on the table, knowing that they have done a lot for the franchise. But we have a great script”confided the 60-year-old actor.
For the record, the American Nightmare saga (The Purge in original version) takes us into an America consumed by unbridled crime and overcrowded prisons. The government has agreed that once a year, for 12 hours, all criminal activities, including murder, will be legalized.
The police cannot intervene. Hospitals are suspending their services. For one night, citizens are able to define their own rules and make their own laws, without having to fear sanctions. How will James DeMonaco direct the story of the 6th part?
For the moment, we just know that it should extend the story based on the events of American Nightmare 5, which saw the establishment of a permanent purge. The different states would be prey to strong divisions and the country would be mapped according to ideology, sexuality and religion.
