The United States House of Representatives has voted in favor of more than $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine to help kyiv in its war with Russia. “Crucial and existential” aid for the Ukrainians, says General Jean-Paul Paloméros on Europe 1.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was expecting a substantial envelope. The US House of Representatives voted on Saturday to provide $61 billion in military aid to kyiv to help it cope with Russia’s more than two-year-old invasion. According to French General Jean-Paul Paloméros, interviewed by Europe 1, “this aid will give hope to the Ukrainians who were beginning to despair because they did not see American aid coming and could no longer even hope for aid European Union too slow, and at the same time they see the Russian mass continuing to advance tirelessly.
The question of the expiry of this aid
The aid of 61 billion dollars is included in a total envelope of 95 billion dollars, intended for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Two thirds of this sum will therefore be delivered to kyiv, and “not only could this aid change things, but it is capital, crucial, existential for the Ukrainians”, underlines General Jean-Paul Paloméros.
The latter puts himself in the place of the Ukrainian leaders. “You are obliged to give a few shells here, a few shells there. You want to distribute to the different brigades. We know very well that money, ammunition, these are the sinews of war. Without ammunition obviously, there is no there is no more fighting,” he points out, now wondering about the expiry of this aid. “We have to do it very, very quickly,” insists the general.
