LG again reaches the TBps threshold in 6G, but over a much greater distance than before.
LG Electronics announces that it has successfully completed a test of data transmission at 1 TBps, using a new mobile network technology that is close to what will be 6G.
Amplifiers to solve short range problems
The performance took place at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin, Germany, over a distance of 320 meters outdoors, and on frequency bands between 155 and 175 GHz. For comparison, the highest theoretical frequency range for 5G is 45.5-52.6 GHz, but that’s not even exploited yet. The 5G currently marketed in France is more in the 3.5 GHz band.
LG had already run a 6G test a year ago, again achieving speeds of 1 TBps, but over a more limited distance of 100 meters, still outdoors.
6G uses ultra-wideband frequencies, with a relatively short range. This means that it may experience power loss from transmit to receive. LG co-developed an amplifier to increase transmission power and a low-noise amplifier receiver to improve incoming signal quality.

6G for 2029
” We expect 6G to be a major driver of future business and new user experiences, and there’s no place we’d rather be than at the forefront of its development.”he added.
While 5G is still far from dominant, we will have to be patient to take advantage of 6G. Discussions to establish the exact standards for the next generation of mobile networks are only due to begin in 2025. The first consumer 6G networks will not be deployed before 2029.
6G will offer much higher data transfer speeds, lower latency and better reliability. Among the innovations it will enable, LG cites ultra-realistic moving holograms and a whole new approach to the Internet of Things. The latter would be more adaptable, with personalized experiences, and the possibility of organically connecting people, objects and spaces with each other.
