7 homemade recipes to try this fall

When it comes to DIY, there's nothing like homemade beauty treatments with seasonal fruits and vegetables. October is cucurbit season. Make way for the pumpkin, the star Halloween squash, to make your own beauty masks.

The benefits of pumpkin for the skin

The pumpkin is a cucurbitaceae which is full of minerals and vitamins good for the skin. It is so moisturizing and soothing, in addition to being able to quickly invigorate the epidermis. It contains in particular a good dose of vitamin C, that is, a vitamin antioxidant ultimate. This neutralizes the free radicals responsible for the aging of our skin to delay the appearance of wrinkles and display a smooth face. Moreover, its vitamin A concentration supports this action while preserving the production of collagen to help us keep the skin firm and plump for as long as possible.
But far from simply nourishing and reboosting the skin, this famous squash also benefits from a high vitamin B content which is very interesting for problem skin. Thanks to this vitamin (also known as niacin or folic acid), the pumpkin indeed boosts blood circulation to help purify the skin properly. In short, it helps us make nasty pimples go away. Rich in fiber, the tasty vegetable also helps purify the skin from the inside when you eat it. A good reason to give in to soups and other squash gratins. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc, a trace element known to help fight acne.
And not to spoil its beauty assets, this large round orange vegetable also contains – like most fruits and vegetables of this bright color – a high level of beta-carotene which is useful in the heart of autumn when the skin tone naturally begins to turn a dull gray. Once applied to the face, this natural pigment indeed helps us to keep looking good, discreetly flattering our complexion with its orange tones that revive the summer tan.
So many good reasons to recycle our food waste into beauty care after digging our Halloween pumpkin.

Our DIY pumpkin mask recipes

Pumpkin puree is an excellent base for making various face masks. Whichever one suits you best based on your skin type, these will all have their place to pamper your skin after makeup abuse at fancy dress parties on October 31st.

Pumpkin Express Hydrating Mask

Ultra easy to do, this gourmet face mask is suitable for all skin types. It will therefore be perfect for moisturizing your face or performing a natural treatment to share.

  • Cook your leftover pumpkin meat, then mash it to make the equivalent of three good tablespoons of pumpkin puree. The texture of the pumpkin should be fairly smooth so feel free to blend it in a blender before putting it in a bowl if necessary.
  • Add a large spoon of honey to the mash and mix. That's it !
  • All you have to do is apply this fresh treatment to your face and leave it on for a quarter of an hour so that your face benefits from the moisturizing effects of pumpkin flesh and honey which wonderfully reinforces its action.

Soothing Pumpkin Mask

  • Put the equivalent of three tablespoons of pumpkin puree in a bowl.
  • Add two tablespoons of plain yogurt and mix.
  • Add a large spoonful of oatmeal to the mixture.
  • Mix well so that the oatmeal is evenly distributed in the pumpkin + yogurt mixture.
  • Apply to the face and neck in a fairly thick layer, and leave on for a quarter of an hour while the skin is filled with hydration and benefits from the soothing virtues of pumpkin and the soothing effects of oats which increases them tenfold .
  • Rinse off with clean water to reveal soft, soothed skin!

Pumpkin Radiance Mask

  • Take a little cooked pumpkin then mash the pieces of vegetables into a thick puree. You need between three and four tablespoons of squash puree.
  • Mix a handful of fresh pumpkin seeds with a big spoonful of olive oil. Pumpkin seeds are loaded with fatty acids and antioxidants, so they're great for restoring suppleness and radiance to the skin. Combined with the satiating effect of olive oil, they do everything to give a nice glow to the skin.
  • Add the mixed seeds + olive oil mixture to the thick mash
  • Apply evenly to the face in a thin layer then leave the mask on for a good quarter of an hour to revitalize the skin and leave it radiant when rinsed off.

Purifying pumpkin mask

  • Reduce your leftover cooked pumpkin to a smooth puree. You should have about three tablespoons of pumpkin puree as the base for your face mask.
  • Add a tablespoon of liquid honey to your mash and mix well so that the honey is distributed evenly throughout the mixture. In this recipe, honey is a two-in-one ingredient that both purifies and nourishes the skin.
  • Then add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to this base, then mix again. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of this essential oil will accentuate the purifying effect of the pumpkin and will allow you to dry up the small inflamed pimples in the process.
  • Apply everything to the face that has been cleaned and dried beforehand, then leave to act for a good ten minutes.
  • Rinse off with plenty of lukewarm water and enjoy clear skin.

Pumpkin Anti-Aging Mask

  • In a bowl, mix three large tablespoons of pumpkin puree with half a plain yogurt, the moisturizing effect of which supports the regenerating action of the pumpkin.
  • Add a big spoonful of honey to the mixture to make it more nourishing.
  • Finally, add the equivalent of a tablespoon of argan oil with unparalleled regenerating properties.
  • Mix everything well before applying it all over the face and neck.
  • Leave on for a quarter of an hour.
  • Rinse to reveal smooth, invigorated skin.

Pumpkin exfoliating mask

  • In a bowl, mix three tablespoons of pumpkin puree with a large tablespoon of honey to get the moisturizing base of your mask.
  • Simply add a tablespoon of powdered brown sugar to the mixture to make the mixture exfoliating.
  • Apply it all over the face and leave it on for about ten minutes.
  • Before rinsing off, take the time to massage the mask onto your face by making small circular movements with your fingertips to keep the skin clean and purify the skin.
  • Rinse thoroughly and you have a nice skin texture.

Pumpkin exfoliating mask for sensitive skin

If the coarse grains of unrefined brown sugar are too abrasive for your reactive skin, swap the previous recipe for this one.

  • Mix the equivalent of three tablespoons of mashed pumpkin with a generous spoonful of honey.
  • Add a tablespoon of almond powder to the mixture then stir so that the powder is distributed evenly in the pumpkin puree mixed with honey. Almond powder provides a gentle exfoliation in addition to intensely nourishing the skin. It therefore renews and regenerates the skin without drying it out.
  • Apply the cool mask to your face and leave it on for ten minutes for the enzymes in the pumpkin to exfoliate your skin.
  • Then massage the treatment on your face by making small circles with your fingertips to erase the skin even better thanks to the almond powder.
  • Rinse
