At 71, Liam Neeson is not ready to stop making action films. While Ice Road, a film in which the Irish actor plays Mike McCann, a truck driver who must lead a convoy that will take the “ice road”, is broadcast this evening on TMC, we take stock of the actor’s projects .

Liam Neeson in a science fiction film in the vein of The Last of Us

In March 2023, Liam Neeson was on the set of Jonny Campbell’s Cold Storage. Adapted from the novel by David Koepp (screenwriter among others of the Jurassic Park saga and Mission: Impossible) published in 2019, the story sees a mushroom stored in the basement of a government installation spread and wreak havoc in the world. A retired bioterrorism agent and two unlikely heroes employed at the facility are caught in a race against time to destroy the organism and save humanity.

Liam Neeson shares the poster for this film, whose pitch is reminiscent of the series The Last of Us, with Joe Keery (Steve in Stranger Things), Vanessa Redgrave, Sosie Bacon (Smile) and Georgina Campbell (Barbaric). No release date has yet been announced.

At the start of 2023, the site Deadline announced the reunion of Liam Neeson and director Neil Jordan. The duo, already working on Marlowe, should reunite for the thriller The Riker’s Ghost. The film will follow an inmate ready for release (Neeson) who finds himself forced to break a terrorist from prison. But since the announcement, no other information on the project has filtered out.

A sequel to Ice Road… in Nepal!

Since then, the actor has been announced in the casting of Ice Road 2, still directed by Jonathan Hensleigh. Subtitled “Road to the Sky”, the film will follow Mike McCann to Nepal this time. Filming took place last January. Neeson co-stars in this action film with Fan Bingbing, Bernard Curry, Geoff Morrell and Grace O’Sullivan. No release date has yet been announced.

The actor will face Ron Perlman.

Liam Neeson vs. Zachari Levi

The Irish actor also has two other projects announced: Guy Moshe’s action thriller, Hotel Tehran in which he will star opposite Zachary Levi. When the project was announced at the beginning of May, the director declared to Deadline : “I am delighted to welcome Liam Neeson to the Tehran Hotel. He is a great actor and an icon of our industry. The character he plays, Larry, is complex, irreverent and inspired by real people. I know his fans around the world will be delighted to see him play this special role and I can’t wait to be there to capture it“. The film, which will begin filming this summer, follows Tucker (Levi), and his unit of former CIA operators who find themselves in disgrace in Tehran.

Liam Neeson will next join Mark Vanselow’s action film, Mongoose, in which he will play Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a war hero, accused of a crime he did not commit. With nothing left to lose, he leads the police on a chase across the country, broadcast live on television. With a budget of $20 million, filming of this film was to begin in January 2025 in Australia.

Liam Neeson in the remake of Was There a Cop to Save the Queen?

But Liam Neeson’s most ambitious project is currently filming. The 71-year-old actor is in the middle of filming the remake of David Zucker’s action comedy, Is There a Cop to Save the Queen? A film which also makes the actor a bit nervous.

Liam Neeson confided to Collider last March : “I’m honored and a little nervous to be reprising this role. I’ve done some very short sketches for television before, but this is a 100-minute film.”

In this new version directed by Akiva Schaffer, Neeson takes over the role of Frank Drebin played by Leslie Nielsen in the 80s. He will be surrounded by Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser.

Pamela Anderson has signed on to star alongside Liam Neeson in Paramount’s untitled remake of The Naked Gun. She will play the role of his love interest, played by Priscilla Presley in the original film, with a mix of sex appeal and of playfulness.”

No synopsis has yet been revealed for this feature film which will be inspired by the saga of films released between 1988 and 1994 as well as the Police Squad series! from which it comes. And it is not even said that it will retain the plot of the first opus, centered on the visit of the Queen of England to the United States. Or with a King, to keep up with current events.

The Naked Gun is scheduled to hit our cinemas on July 16, 2025.
