The ex-ski star Franz Klammer has been committed to needy Carinthian families with his “Tour de Franz” since 2002. Last Wednesday, September 1st, the cycling event took place for the 19th time and with great success! A remarkable 72,000 euros were collected in donations with prominent support from sports, business and politics.
“Franz Klammer’s event is now very important in Carinthian cycling. The bike tour is limited to a maximum of 130 invited cyclists who sweat around 90 kilometers for a good cause, ”says the organizers of“ Tour de Franz ”.
This year, the route led from the Hotel “Villa Rainer” in Pörtschach via the Finkenstein castle ruins and back to the Hotel am Wörthersee. The cyclists conquered around 900 meters in altitude.

This year, in addition to patron Franz Klammer and main sponsor Herbert Waldner (managing director of FOR FOREST and Riedergarten Immobilien), governor Peter Kaiser, TV presenter Armin Assinger, winemaker Leo Hillinger, Olympic ski champion Matthias Mayer, speed queen Nici Schmidhofer, and professional cyclists like Patrick were there Konrad, Marco Haller, René Haselbacher, numerous business representatives such as Walter Wiedenbauer (sto GmbH) and the South Tyrolean restaurateur Ivan Marzola.
“The basic idea is simple and convincing at the same time. A charitable alliance between sport, society and the economy that helps families in need and at the same time brings joy to all those involved, ”says Franz Klammer, who is happy about the donation amount of 72,000 euros.
