750 million dollars: will this cult romantic comedy for 20 years be back for a 4th film?

On the occasion of the rebroadcast of “Bridget Jones: the age of reason” this evening on W9, we take stock of a possible “Bridget Jones 4”.

Bridget Jones evening this evening on W9 with the broadcast of Bridget Jones Baby at 9 p.m. and Bridget Jones: the age of reason in the second part of the evening. Do you miss Helen Fielding’s heroine? We take stock of a possible fourth installment to the adventures of the London spinster played by Renée Zellweger.

Released in theaters in 2016, Bridget Jones Baby is the first film in the trilogy not to be adapted from a novel byHelen Fielding (but she co-wrote the screenplay with Emma Thompson and Dan Mazer). The feature film grossed $212 million at the international box office (compared to $281 million for Bridget Jones’ Diary released in 2001 and 265 million greenbacks for The age of Reason released in 2004.

In this third part, Bridget has broken up with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and finds herself single again at the age of 40. More focused on her career and her friends than on her love life, the heroine copes well with the situation until she meets Jack (Patrick Dempsey) and finds Mark… Then discovers that she is pregnant . But from whom?

If this opus is not adapted from a book by Helen Fielding, it nevertheless fits perfectly into the timeline of the saga since in the third novel entitled Bridget Jones: Crazy about him (published in 2013), the heroine, aged 53, is a widow and mother of 2 children. Having become a fan of social networks, she tries to juggle between her work, her life as a mother and her life as a woman.

Is Bridget Jones 4 possible?

A fourth film, this time adapted from the book, would therefore make sense and Renee Zellweger is also up for it. The American actress affirmed in April 2022 her desire to find the character who made her famous. She thus confided to Jess Cagle in the show SiriusXM : “I would love to find her again. It’s funny because she’s very funny. I love playing him. I laugh every day on the sets of these films. I see no reason to say no if the opportunity arises.”

And the opportunity should soon present itself since last December the novelist and screenwriter Helen Fielding announced to Radio Timesbeing working on the script for a fourth film.

I’m working on it and I really hope it happens. Every movie made is a miracle – it’s really hard to make movies and make them good. But I would love to see it on screen.”.
