T-Mobile US is flying high

The Telekom subsidiary T-Mobile US increased its revenues significantly at the beginning of the year – but earned a little less. The analysts are particularly surprised by the rapid growth in new customers.

The US mobile operator T-Mobile US has raised its outlook for the full year. From January to March, thanks to an influx of customers, revenues climbed 77 percent to 19.76 billion dollars, as the US subsidiary of the Bonn-based Dax group Deutsche Telekom announced. The plus was greater than analysts expected.

T-Mobile US continues to push the takeover of its smaller competitor Sprint. Adjusted operating income rose 67 percent to $ 5.86 billion. Now T-Mobile expects for the full year adjusted operating profit between 22.8 and 23.2 billion instead of the previous 22.6 to 23.1 billion dollars. Despite the strong growth, net income fell two percent to $ 933 million due to the Sprint acquisition. The quarterly figures from T-Mobile US and the outlook were well received on the stock exchange. The share rose more than two percent after the trading day.

The company from Bellevue in the US state of Washington has been hunting down the two competitors AT&T and Verizon for years with an aggressive pricing policy, investments and marketing. In the first quarter, the telecommunications provider won 773,000 contract customers – significantly more than expected and also more than AT&T recently. T-Mobile US benefited from the fact that more people were using telecommunications services during the Corona crisis to stay in contact with one another and to work from home. The German parent company gives an insight into the quarterly figures on May 12th.
