On Friday, an 84-year-old fell from a height of five meters into the stone-strewn bed of the Zemmbach in Mayrhofen. He had lost his balance on a ladder.
On Friday, an 84-year-old Austrian carried out woodwork in the creek bed where the Zemmbach flows into the Ziller River in Mayrhofen by cutting up alluvial tree trunks with a chainsaw. He chopped up the sawn off logs in the creek bed and then carried them over a ladder that he had prepared about five meters above the vertical barriers of the Ziller river.
Lost balance
In the meantime, the 84-year-old put the pieces of wood down on a small ledge of the construction. When he was in the upper area of the ladder at around 3 p.m. and wanted to place another piece of log on the ledge of the aforementioned stream barriers, he suddenly lost his balance and fell five meters into the stone-strewn stream bed below, where he lay motionless.
Passer-by saw misfortune
A passerby who was able to observe the incident immediately called the emergency call, another passerby provided first aid. The rescue, which arrived shortly afterwards, tried to reanimate the 84-year-old without success. The emergency doctor could only determine the death of the Austrian. The dead was rescued by the volunteer fire brigade using a basket stretcher.
