845 grams – Finally home: Happy ending for premature Valentina

Her entry into life was truly dramatic! In the 26th week of pregnancy and with only 845 grams, little Valentina was born on January 5th. Wrapped in the amniotic sac, a very rare phenomenon! Now the little one could be released from the hospital and finally come home to her parents and siblings.

It was January 5th in the early hours of the morning when Valentina decided to see the light of day. After the onset of the first contractions, Papa Patrick Bauer already dialed the emergency call, a quickly alarmed relative of the family took care of the 2-year-old brother Gabriel, who was also woken up by the excitement. A tiny bundle of life When the Red Cross colleagues from the Lieboch local branch, When Philipp Hasenöhrl, Patrick Roth and Christina Sumann arrived on site, they saw what was initially a frightening sight: Baby Valentina was still completely wrapped in the amniotic sac and was lying in the arms of the exhausted mother, Natascha Steinscherer, on the floor of the living room. A tiny bundle of life: 37 centimeters tall and weighing 845 grams. The experienced paramedics quickly got the situation under control: the rescue control center was contacted again, dispatcher Thomas Semmler set up a telephone conference between the RTW team, the emergency doctor Dr. Andreas Köck and the neonatology team at the Graz University Hospital. Under the guidance of the specialists, life-saving measures began immediately. Preemie Valentina was fully brought to life from the carefully opened amniotic sac and using cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After a few minutes, the parents could be calmed down: heartbeat and breathing had started! After the final care of the mother, who fortunately was fine, little Valentina was taken to the intensive care unit in an incubator. Great praise for the paramedics The next few weeks were for the Parents and the two brothers (the older one is 22) nerve wracking. But now the redeeming news: Valentina was allowed to leave the neonatology intensive care unit and come home today! “The performance of the colleagues on site was incredibly professional; especially since such an operation takes place at most once in ten years”, there was great praise from the experts for the paramedics. Now Valentina can really start life with her family at home in Lannach. All the best for that!
