Angèle Houin, 89, was violently attacked in a Cannes-La-Bocca residence by three minors aged 14 and 15 who stole her handbag last week. An attack that strongly reacted in the sphere. The mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard had called on Gérald Darmanin that the “authors of such acts be considered as litigants in their own right”. Guest of Europe Matin Tuesday, the president of the Association of mayors of France, persists: “We must re-educate these people” and “protect society”.

“These facts are below humanity”

Outraged by this aggression, filmed by a CCTV camera, David Lisnard declared on his Twitter account: “As soon as the facts are known, in view of the images of this disgusting act committed by sub-humans, I put pressure and am intervened with the police station, gave all the information that we were able to collect up to providing the identity of the attackers thanks to the videos and to a very efficient municipal police officer who knows the sector perfectly.

He also added: “If it was my mother who had been attacked in this way, knowing the identity of the pathetic perpetrators of this abjection, it might be me who would be in prison today.”

“These facts are below humanity,” he said on Europe 1.

“Violence against people has increased by 33%”

“Today, all the daily life proves it to us, there is a reality which is not of the order of the news item, which is indicative of violence in society, of a statistical reality, violence on people have increased by 33% for five years. We will then see the sentences that will be pronounced but our way of understanding these problems is obsolete”, continued the mayor of Cannes.

So what are the solutions to this rise in violence, as David Lisnard asserts? “There is a need to review the graduation of sentences within the framework of the rule of law”, to treat these young people as “adult delinquents” and send them back “to reformatories”. For this, the president of the Association of Mayors of France encourages a review of the ordinance of 45 as well as the means allocated to security.

“We must protect society, confinement is also part of protecting society,” he concluded.
