97-inch Oled televisions expected at the end of the year at a very steep price

LG Electronics unveiled at IFA 2022 its largest Oled TV, 97 inches (about 246 cm). It will be marketed by the end of the year for a very high price of around €25,000, which is more expensive than the brand’s Oled 8K televisions.

At IFA 2022, LG Electronics exhibited – for the first time – its 97-inch Oled TV, the largest Oled model ever made. This new 97-inch diagonal was announced by LG Display at CES 2022, but it was the first time that a 97-inch panel was visible. This 2.46 meter diagonal television is obviously very, very large. This LG 97G2 is part of the Gallery Edition range and as such benefits from a perfectly flat design at the back in order to be fixed to the wall (see our test of the 55G1).

The G2 series takes up the characteristics of the LG 65C2 that we have already tested, but features the Oled EX panel from LG Display called Oled Evo with Brightness Booster at LG; it is equipped on this G2 model with a specific cooling system, like Panasonic’s Oled televisions, which would tease a peak in brightness of 1000 cd / m², like the Panasonic 65JZ2000. The 97-inch Oled panel is only reserved for LG’s G series.

As for the advertised price, it is very, very salty. While the 77-inch LG 77G2 is sold for around €5,000 and the 83-inch (211 cm) model — the LG 83G2 — for €6,500, the LG 97G2 should be on the market by the end of the year for a price of around the 25,000 €, which is more expensive than the LG 77Z2 with its 77-inch Oled 8K panel, displayed at 12,000 €. In any case, this makes it possible to offer sizes still inaccessible to QD-Oled technology, for the moment limited to 55 and 65 inches pending the arrival of the first 77-inch QD-Oled panels next year.
