Catherine, Princess of Wales
Wimbledon star makes snotty remark about Royal
Catherine, Princess of Wales is a frequent spectator at Wimbledon – much to the delight of sports and royal fans. But a tennis player does not seem to be on good terms with Prince William’s wife.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, spoke at press conference
The Ukrainian athlete, who has refused to shake hands with Russian and Belarusian players in previous tournaments and now at Wimbledon, dismissed a question about Kate at a press conference. Said press conference took place on Thursday, July 13, after Svitolina lost to Marketa Vondroušová, 24, in the semifinals. The other semi-final was played by Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka, 25.
“Right now I’m in no condition to answer that question”
In her capacity as patron, the Princess of Wales presents the trophy to the winner at the end of the tournament. According to “GB News”, Svitolina was asked by a journalist what she thought of the prospect of Kate possibly presenting the trophy to the Belarusian. “I haven’t even thought about that. At the moment I’m not in the condition to answer this question,” the athlete is said to have moderated the question.
However, she later expressed her disappointment at the loss, mentioning Catherine more sympathetically: “I won’t be here. Yes, I’m just upset that I can’t play and not be able to collect the trophy from (the Princess of Wales).” However, Aryna Sabalenka will not receive the winner’s trophy either, because Ons Jabeur, 28, prevailed against her. Kensington Palace has now confirmed that Catherine will attend the women’s final at Wimbledon on Saturday 15 July. It remains to be seen whether Kate will ceremonially present the trophy to Vondroušová or Jabeur.
