- Many still want to go south. But many are already returning from there.
- On Sunday afternoon, cars are still backed up for around five kilometers in front of the Gotthard north portal.
- Towards the north there are slightly longer waiting times.
As early as 9 a.m., vehicles had been backed up on the A2 motorway in front of the southbound tunnel. At this time, however, initially only over a length of one kilometer, as the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) announced.
At noon, the stationary motorcade grew to ten kilometers, not least because of the tunnel closure for a breakdown vehicle between Erstfeld and Göschenen. The wait was more than an hour and a half. The situation calmed down again on Sunday afternoon: cars were still backed up for a few kilometers in front of the Gotthard north portal.
Cars are also backing up in the northbound direction: a six-kilometre-long traffic jam has formed in front of the Gotthard south portal. However, the column is also decreasing here.
Larger traffic jams had already occurred on the Gotthard on Saturday. The traffic jam length was a maximum of 13 kilometers to the south and eight kilometers to the north.
