Released last January on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform, The Last of Us quickly established itself as one of the best series of 2023, so it’s no wonder fans want a little more.
While we wait for the announced season 2, co-creator Craig Mazin answered a question regarding potential spin-off series.
“Other series that could be inspired by these characters”
Asked by our colleagues from The Wrap about the possibility of a spin-off of the series, the co-creator and co-screenwriter declared himself in favor: “We haven’t talked about it specifically because we’re so focused on telling the main story. But I’m not against the idea of other shows that might take inspiration from those characters or that world.”.
“In principle, I have no problem with that. And I’m sure Neil [Druckmann, cocréateur de la série] would also be interested”he continues. “If there is something that makes sense, then why not. My great hope is that if it happens, it is done with as much care, respect and love as we currently apply to this series”.
While season 2 of The Last of Us isn’t expected until 2025, it wouldn’t be surprising to see HBO capitalize on the show’s success with spin-offs, as it did with the franchise. Game Of Thrones.
As a reminder, the adaptation of the video game has won both public and critical success. She signed the best start of the HBO chain in ten years, and has just collected 24 nominations for the next Emmy Awards which will be held in January 2024.
If the idea of a spin-off is interesting, which direction to take and which character to follow?
Spin-off series about the Fireflies, or about characters located in other corners of the world — as shown briefly at the start of the first episodes — could open up the universe in an attractive way. Episode 3, centered on Bill and Frank, had also proved that another approach was possible.
Initially available to Prime Video subscribers, the series The Last of Us is now offered only via the Warner Pass, a paid option providing access to HBO programs and 12 other Warner Bros. channels. Discovery.
