Last March, the publisher Focus Entertainment and the studio Hutli Hut Games announced Void Crew on PC, a space adventure game focused on cooperation, where up to 4 players will embody members of a crew exploring space aboard a ship, with its share of misadventures, fights and looting, all not without derision according to the only trailer released and with a big bad guy threatening humanity, called the Hollow. At the time, seeing this video, the armada of ships visible there caught our attention, but nothing more. Last week new visuals of the game were shared to announce the start of theEarly Access on Steam this september 7 and one of them in particular ended up being talked about in a whole other community on the Web, that of Destiny 2with the consequence strong suspicion of plagiarism.
Indeed, these famous pyramidal vessels sport the same tetrahedral shape and an ebony hull from which luminous bands emerge from the structure. The Game Post was thus asked on the Discord of Hutli Hut Games his vision of things and here is what was answered:
Thanks for bringing attention to the Reclaimer. There’s definitely some inspiration drawn from Destiny here. Overall, the Hollows’ design language is a mix of lifeless geometric shapes, machinery, and bug-like details and features.
Take an enemy like the Cruiser or the Prism, they also have pretty simple form languages compared to some of the smaller enemies. There’s something monumental about our greatest enemy being shaped like a pyramid. A brutal enemy against whom you have no chance to oppose. That being said, we may need to re-examine it to stand out more clearly from Destiny 2.
Void Crew on the left / Destiny 2 on the right
Nothing is denied, but it seems that the developers are not more embarrassed than that by this striking similarity. Not sure that Bungie be as lax if it reaches the ears of his legal department…
Anyway, as you can see on the next page, Void Crew doesn’t need that to stand out from the MMOFPS. If you are interested, you can get it at Early Access within a few hours Steam.
