After seven years of debate in parliament, voters will have the last word on September 26th. Should same-sex couples also marry and lesbian couples be able to father a child via sperm donation?
The National Council and Council of States finally passed the relevant legislative changes this spring. But Christian conservative circles around the EDU have taken the referendum. From their point of view, marriage is a connection between man and woman and opening up to same-sex couples would be tantamount to a “sociopolitical dam break”.
Controversial sperm donation
The Federal Council disagrees: it supports marriage for everyone. Justice Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (57) spoke out in parliament against the legalization of sperm donation for lesbian couples.
At a media conference today, she will present the arguments with which she is now campaigning for a yes in September. Blick will broadcast the event live from 9.30 a.m. (lha)
